InCarbZero Snapshot: DEDALO AI

Enabling 15-20% datacenter GHG emmision reduction

At InCarbZero we discover and present innovative technologies that are at the forefront of industrial decarbonization. Recently, we’ve had the chance to interview Franceso Musso from Dedalo AI - a promising solution provider and applicant from the Hello Cleantech Startup Challenge, focused on quantifying and mitigating the digital CO2 footprint.

Fabio Giannese, Francesco Musso & Seif Chourbagi - Dedalo AI Founders Team

Hi Francesco, could you introduce yourself and give us a snapshot of what you do in the company?

I am Francesco Musso, co-founder & CSO of Dedalo AI. I have two masters in Blockchain Management and previously worked for another tech startup. At Dedalo I deal with the sustainability policies, fundraising and product design.

Can you explain how your technology works and how AI is used in the process to parse client companies' digital activities and footprint?

We install a software agent within the systems of a company to track in real-time the resources used for their digital activities, then we use proprietary AI models to find the inefficiencies and the waste of resources within the processes and we provide insights on how to minimise the environmental impact.

How does Dedalo AI's impact dashboard work? How are the GRI reports elaborated automatically from them?

As Dedalo we offer a dashboard with the visualisation of the environmental impact and the insights on how to minimise it. Then we also help with the ESG reporting, we export the dashboard’s data and with generative AI we automatically write the ESG report. We use mainly the GRI framework, but we can easily adapt to other frameworks.

How does Dedalo AI ensure the accuracy of its emissions calculations and propose reduction strategies?

We adopt standard open-source methodologies for the calculations, our value added is the high quality agent to collect the data for the calculations and the ability to provide insights on the reduction strategies. We are still improving our reduction strategies, but we have already validate them during our previous PoCs: on average we are able to reduce 15%-20% of CO2 emissions, without changing the user experience.

Is there a specific business segment that Dedalo AI is focusing on?

We are sector agnostic, but we are receiving a lot of attention and appreciation from the banking and the utilities sectors. They are the first to be hit by the new sustainability regulations such as CSRD and CSDDD.

Siemens, Reply and EY are among your proof of concept cases. Can you share in more detail some success stories where Dedalo AI has helped companies reduce their carbon footprint and meet sustainability goals?

We helped Reply in assessing the sustainability of the software they developed, we helped Siemens in adopting best practices in IT and educate their employees, we helped EY, Banca Popolare di Sondrio and DeNora with the monitoring and the reduction of their digital carbon footprint and we helped Stillabit with the monitoring of the carbon footprint of online advertisement.

Can you tell us about your future plans? How do you see Dedalo AI evolving in the next 5 years?

In the next year we will be able to tackle all digital emissions and we will also start PoCs on the value chain monitoring and reporting. In five years we want to provide AI insights on how to minimise the environmental impact of any kind of emissions.
